AMC Error Messages and Rejections Explained
What does the AMC message mean, and what helps? Each page gives the cause according to the Amazon documentation, with source and retrieval date. We only quote a message text where Amazon prints it.
- AMC: "too many workflows have already been run against the same input data sources"
AMC rejects an execution when too many similar queries already ran on the same data sources and time windows.
- AMC rejects the query: literal filter on a high-threshold column
AMC rejects queries that compare columns with the high or very high threshold to literal values, for example WHERE postal_code IN (10001, 10011).
- AMC: user_id is not allowed in the final SELECT
Columns with the very high threshold such as user_id can never appear in the output, only in intermediate steps or as COUNT or COUNT DISTINCT.
- AMC results with empty NULL rows
Rows with too few users show up without a dimension value (NULL) because the aggregation threshold was not reached. This is not a bug.
- AMC: parallel workflow execution limit reached
At most 10 workflow executions per instance and 200 per account run in parallel via the API; further ones wait in the queue.
- AMC: workflow execution times out
workflowExecutionTimeoutSeconds limits the run time; the minimum is 900 seconds and the default maximum 86,400 seconds.
- AMC API: HTTP 429 Too Many Requests
Exceeding the rate limit of an AMC API returns 429. Amazon recommends exponential backoff with jitter instead of coding to fixed limits.
- AMC API: HTTP 410 on instance-level calls
The instance-level APIs were retired on August 1, 2024 and may return 410; the fix is migrating to the AMC APIs on the Amazon Ads API.
- AMC API: HTTP 400 when cancelling a finished execution
An execution status can only be set to CANCELLED while it is PENDING or RUNNING; for finished executions the API answers 400.
