Reporting API, Marketing Stream or AMC?
Amazon Ads offers three ways to get at your own advertising data. They solve different jobs: daily reports, intraday steering and your own event-level analysis.
Which job, which product?
| Job | Product |
|---|---|
| Daily campaign reporting in your own dashboard | Reporting API (v3) |
| Adjust bids by time of day (dayparting) | Amazon Marketing Stream |
| Get notified when a budget is almost used up | Amazon Marketing Stream |
| Which channels and paths led to the purchase? | Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC) |
| Activate cart abandoners as an audience | Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC) |
| Measure the overlap of DSP and sponsored ads reach | Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC) |
The three compared
| Axis | Reporting API (v3) | Amazon Marketing Stream | Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Granularity | Daily and summary reports per campaign, ad group, ad, keyword or target. | Traffic and conversion data summarised hourly, sent as changes (deltas) rather than snapshots. | Pseudonymised event-level signals, analysed with SQL; results come back aggregated. |
| Delivery | Pull: request a report via the API and download it as gzipped JSON. | Push into your own AWS account: Amazon Data Firehose or SQS, in near real time. | Your own queries in a clean-room instance; audiences go directly to DSP or sponsored ads. |
| Data | Aggregated performance metrics of your own campaigns. | Reporting data plus messages on budget consumption and changes to campaigns, ad groups, ads and targets. | Ad exposures and conversions across channels, your own uploaded data, optionally paid features. |
| Best for | Standard reporting and dashboards on a daily basis. | Intraday steering: adjust bids and budgets by hour, react when budgets run out. | Customer journeys, multi-touch attribution, media mix and incrementality, custom audiences. |
| Limits | For more frequent updates Amazon points to Marketing Stream; too many requests lead to throttling. | Advertising data only, no retail data. Stream v1 shuts off on 30 June 2027; v2 is the way forward. | Not a real-time tool; results are subject to aggregation thresholds. |
